Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington lead a group of heroic outlaws in The Magnificent Seven remake trailer

Back in 1960, Steve McQueen and Yul Brynner spearheaded a versatile cast for the western classic The Magnificent Seven, a film that has became more memorable for its robust theme tune as composed by Elmer Bernstein.

But as you would expect with Hollywood these days, its story is set to be explored again in an upcoming remake which is being led by two of the biggest box-office stars in Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World) and Oscar-winner Denzel Washington (Training Day, Flight).

As was the case with John Sturges’ original flick, the duo are accompanied by some experienced names for the film which has premiered its official trailer.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Olympus Has Fallen, Southpaw), the plot sees seven bounty hunters come together in order to help protect a village from a notorious industrialist and his men.

Pratt and Washington are accompanied in their group of ‘seven’ by the latter’s Training Day co-star Ethan Hawke (Before trilogy, Boyhood) as well as Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Jurassic World), Byung-Hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Terminator Genisys), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Cake, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) and Martin Sensmeier (Salem, Lilin’s Brood).

Peter Sarsgaard (Orphan, Black Mass) plays the film’s villain with additional acting support coming from Haley Bennett (The Equalizer, Hardcore Henry), Matt Bomer (The Normal Heart, American Horror Story), Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch), Luke Grimes (American Sniper, Fifty Shades of Grey) and Sean Bridgers (Deadwood, Room).

Ironically, its predecessor was actually a remake of an even more acclaimed film in the form of Akira Kurosawa’s Japanese masterpiece Seven Samurai (1954).

The Magnificent Seven will be released on 23rd September.
