Charlie Hunnam and Mr Robot’s Rami Malek to star in Papillon remake

In 1974, Hollywood superstars Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman shared the screen together when they appeared in the gritty real-life prison drama Papillon.

But over forty years later, the film is now becoming the subject of yet another remake as devised by the blasted film industry.

Fortunately, the project has managed to land two of the biggest television stars in the form of Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek.

Hunnam, best known for his role as Jax Teller in the FX series Sons of Anarchy, will play McQueen’s character Henri Carriere, a wrongly convicted man who was forced to serve time on an island prison in South America.

Malek will be playing Hoffman’s character Louis Dega, a notorious forger who would try to help Carriere escape from the prison. Malek can currently be seen in his Emmy-nominated role as troubled computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the second series of Mr.Robot.

Filming is due to take place in September with a release date likely to be set for late 2017 / early 2018.
