Following the incredible success of its seventh installment The Force Awakens, the Star Wars saga is officially back with a bang!
Though the sci-fi blockbuster is still making big money in the worldwide box-office, Disney have already begun production on the next outing, Episode VIII with Rian Johnson (Breaking Bad, Looper) taking over directing duties from Force Awakens helmer JJ Abrams.
The studio have now officially confirmed three major castings for the new film with two of them well known to audiences.
The first is Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro who is best known for his roles in The Usual Suspects (1995), Snatch (2000), Traffic (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and last year’s Sicario.
The second major name is Golden Globe winner Laura Dern who was previously involved in another money-making blockbuster in the prehistoric adventure Jurassic Park (1993). She has also featured in the likes of Mask (1985), Wild at Heart (1990), Rambling Rose (1991) and Wild (2014) plus the television series Enlightened (2011-2013).
The third significant casting is of newcomer Kelly Marie Tran who has appeared in sitcoms About a Boy and Ladies Like Us so far in her young career.
The trio join an already established cast which includes Force Awakens stars Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux) and Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) plus original trilogy veterans Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO).
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on December 15th 2017.
