Batman and Superman go head-to-head in epic Comic-Con trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

There are several months to go until DC Comics’ epic superhero blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released to cinematic audiences.

Many fans have had doubts about the film given the underwhelming reaction to its predecessor Man of Steel (2013) and the surprise casting of Ben Affleck (Daredevil, Argo) as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

For now though, those fears have been put aside following the recent release of Dawn of Justice’s second trailer which premiered at Comic-Con last night.

The lengthy three and a half minute preview shows more footage of Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader as well as introducing us to other new characters including Gal Gadot (Fast and Furious series) as superheroine Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Now You See Me) as the villainous Lex Luthor and Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune, The Lion King) as Batman’s loyal butler Alfred.

Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), the film follows up the events of Man of Steel which saw Henry Cavill’s Superman defeat General Zod only to have caused mass destruction to the city of Metropolis during the climatic fight. As he faces ridicule from the public for his actions, he is also confronted by fellow superhero Batman (Affleck) but the pair soon find themselves having to work together in order to stop a new enemy from destroying the world.

As well as showing the likes of Wonder Woman in action, the trailer also shows the return of other characters from Man of Steel including Amy Adams (Enchanted, American Hustle) as Clark Kent’s love interest Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix trilogy, Hannibal) as Daily Planet Editor Perry White and Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Secretariat) as Clark’s adoptive mother Martha.

There is even a hint towards another upcoming DC Comics film as we see that the Joker has written a chilling message to Batman on a mysterious costume which ties in to the super-villain blockbuster Suicide Squad.

As was reported a couple of days ago, Ben Affleck’s Batman will be getting his own standalone film with the new man playing him also directing it.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released in cinemas worldwide on March 25th 2016.
