Anthony Hopkins is legendary film director Alfred Hitchcock in official trailer for Hitchcock

In the history of cinema, Alfred Hitchcock is regarded as one of the great film-makers thanks to his title of ‘the master of suspense’. Amongst his daring films which have shocked and amazed audiences include Rear Window, North by Northwest and of course Psycho.

But we have never had a chance to see the great director’s own story on the big-screen until now….

The Hitchcock biopic had been stuck in production but a long time but not only has it finally been finished but the publicity for the film has sky-rocketed with an official trailer being released today.

The film focuses on Hitchcock’s making of his suspenseful masterpiece Psycho which was regarded as one of the most controversial films of its time back in 1960. Despite the fears from Paramount Studios of whether the film would fail, Hitchcock was able to create a stunning film which would be talked about by audiences for many years to come.

Oscar-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins (The Elephant Man, The Silence of the Lambs) portrays the renowned director with fellow award-winner Helen Mirren (Gosford Park, The Queen) playing his wife Alma.

Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, The Avengers) plays Janet Leigh, the actress involved in the iconic shower scene from the film with James D’Arcy (W.E) taking on the role of actor Anthony Perkins who played the villainous Norman Bates.

Jessica Biel (Stealth, Total Recall), Toni Colette (The Sixth Sense, About a Boy) and Michael Stuhlbarg (Boardwalk Empire, Hugo) round off the versatile cast. The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil!) and adapted from Stephen Rebello’s novel.

Already some film-fanatics believe the biopic could deliver especially with talk of Hopkins being considered for another Best Actor Oscar. We shall have to see what the reviews say though my personal opinion is it looks brilliant….

Hitchcock will arrive in the UK on 8th February 2013.
