Andrew Stanton to direct Finding Nemo 2

Almost ten years after its release, not many people would have expected a sequel to Pixar’s Finding Nemo but that is now looking a reality following the news today.

Deadline has revealed that original director Andrew Stanton will helm the follow-up to the 2003 hit which he shared directing duties with Lee Unkrich leading to the film winning the Best Animated Film Oscar.

Executives at both Pixar and Disney are said to be thrilled with Stanton’s ideas for the new film as the director looks to bounce back from the box-office disappointment of his first live-action film John Carter from earlier this year.

Admittingly a sequel does seem inappropriate especially if it means Nemo going missing again which is why audiences will expect a different type of story. It’s also surprising that another Pixar film like The Incredibles (2004) still hasn’t earned a second film after all the acclaim it received though the executives probably think superhero films are becoming very competitive. They aren’t far wrong….

At least it will give us the chance to enjoy the splendid voice-work of Albert Brooks (Marlin) and Ellen DeGeneres (Dory) once again with the latter being an aspiring choice for voicing a dopey character!
