Today saw the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards unveil their list of nominations for both film and television.

On the film front, the factual drama House of Gucci and the western drama The Power of the Dog share the lead with three nods each. However, the former benefited from landing a key mention for Best Ensemble alongside family dramas Belfast and CODA, political satire Don’t Look Up and sports biopic King Richard.

Gucci, which follows the scandalous life of Italian socialite Patrizia Reggiani, also picked up acting nods for Lady Gaga in Best Actress and Jared Leto in Best Supporting Actor.

Fresh from its Golden Globe-winning success last Sunday, Power received acting mentions for stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Best Actor), Kirsten Dunst (Best Supporting Actress) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Best Supporting Actor).

Elsewhere, recent Globe-winning stars Will Smith (King Richard), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) and Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick…Boom!) are joined in their respective lead actor categories by other fact-based performances including Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos), Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), and Jennifer Hudson (Respect).

Meanwhile, Best Supporting Actress frontrunner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) will be looking to follow up her recent Globe success as she competes with the likes of Caitríona Balfe (Belfast), Cate Blanchett (Nightmare Alley) and Ruth Negga (Passing) while Power’s Kodi Smit-McPhee faces competition from the likes of Ben Affleck (The Tender Bar) and Bradley Cooper (Licorice Pizza).

As to be expected, there were plenty of strong snubs, with Kristen Stewart surprisingly ignored in Best Actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer. Other high-profile omissions include Leonardo DiCaprio (Don’t Look Up), Jodie Comer (The Last Duel), Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), Jamie Dornan (Belfast) and Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard).

The SAG award winners will be unveiled on Sunday 28th February.

Over in the television categories, HBO’s epic family drama Succession and Apple TV’s football comedy Ted Lasso both lead the way with five nominations apiece.

Fresh from its Globe ‘success’ last Sunday, Succession is up for Best Ensemble (Drama) alongside the likes of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Morning Show and Squid Game while actors Jeremy Strong, Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook are all in contention for their performances.

Similarly, Ted Lasso contests the Best Ensemble (Comedy) line-up with the likes of The Great, Hacks and Only Murders in the Building with cast members Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham all nodded for their prestige work.

In the mini-series categories, Mare of Easttown performed well with four mentions, including a Best Actress (Mini-Series) acknowledgment for Kate Winslet.
