Paul Rudd cast as Marvel’s Ant-Man in Edgar Wright film

Phase 2 of the Marvel Universe is starting to come together after another key casting decision was made by the money-making studio.

Following ongoing speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Paul Rudd (Anchorman, This is 40) will play cat burglar-turned-superhero Scott Lang in the latest Marvel flick Ant-Man.

Directed by British filmmaker Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), the film sees Lang being approached by a veteran scientist who gives him a suit that enables him to shrink in size and communicate with and control insects.

On the casting, Marvel’s Head of Production Kevin Feige said:

“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

The comic-book blockbuster is likely to shoot in America after Wright turned down the chance to direct it in his native England.

Ant-Man will be released in cinemas on July 31st 2015.
