As one of the greatest authors of all time, J.R.R Tolkien has built a strong legacy through his hugely-successful Middle Earth novels which would later lead to two hit film trilogies by director Peter Jackson.
Tolkien’s own story is finally getting the cinematic treatment via an upcoming biopic which stars Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy, The Favourite) as the renowned writer.
Entitled Tolkien, the film’s full-length trailer has now been released by FOX Searchlight.
Directed by Dome Karukowski (The Grump, Tom of Finland), the film centres on the author during his early years as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school prior to World War I.
Lily Collins (Les Misérables, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile) co-stars as Tolkien’s future wife Edith with additional acting support coming from Colm Meaney (Con-Air, One Chance), Anthony Boyle (Derry Girls, Ordeal by Innocence), Patrick Gibson (Guerilla, The White Princess), Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk, The Last Post), Craig Roberts (Submarine, Bad Neighbors), Laura Donnelly (Missing, Outlander), Genevieve O’Reilly (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Tin Star), Pam Ferris (Matilda, Call the Midwife) and Derek Jacobi (The King’s Speech, Murder on the Orient Express).
Touted as one biopic to rule them all, Tolkien will be released in the UK on May 3rd.
