Back in 2007, we assumed that The Bourne Ultimatum had marked the end of Jason Bourne’s on-screen adventures after director Paul Greengrass and leading star Matt Damon chose to leave the franchise. However the story is set to continue with a fourth film entitled The Bourne Legacy which has now released its second trailer.
Despite Damon’s absence, the role of leading bad-ass star has now switched to Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Avengers) whose CIA Agent Aaron Cross finds himself caught up in the middle of Treadstone’s pursuit of Jason Bourne.
Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Constant Gardener) and Oscar-nominated actor Edward Norton (American History X, Fight Club) are the other big-name additions to the sequel while actors from the previous films including Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Albert Finney also return. Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) replaces Greengrass as director.
After the exciting teaser for Skyfall was released last week, the anticipation for action films has become stronger. This trailer has only added to the thrills for the rest of this film year with some enthralling action sequences including another vehicle chase and Cross’s confrontation with hit-men between two enclosed walls.
But though it’s disappointing not to see Damon star in this, his character’s story is still referenced in the trailer especially with Treadstone playing a big role once again while we also get to see clips from Ultimatum of Bourne and Simon Ross (Paddy Considine) being pursued.
The film will be out in the UK on August 13th.
