Mia Wasikowska is haunted by Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston in trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak

Following a brief hiatus between 2008 and 2013, influential Spanish filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro suddenly has a busy schedule ahead of him.

The Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth director made a successful cinematic comeback with his 2013 blockbuster Pacific Rim, soon to be followed by a sequel. As well as that, Del Toro is also working on a new big-screen version of the beloved childhood classic Pinocchio.

Beforehand though, he has returned to the horror genre with his upcoming Gothic thriller Crimson Peak, a project which features a strong quartet of talented actors and mesmerising production designs.  An official trailer for the film premiered online earlier today.

Set in the Victorian era, the plot sees Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Stoker) play a young novelist who falls for a handsome man with a dark past and ends up staying with him and his creepy sister at their mansion. Unbeknownst to her, the place is haunted which leaves her fighting to survive.

Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, The Avengers) and the majestic (and dark-haired) Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar) portray the mysterious siblings with Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim) also featuring as a doctor who secretly admires the novelist.

The film has already been praised by horror author Stephen King (The Shining, Misery) who described it as “gorgeous and just f**king terrifying.”

Crimson Peak will be released in cinemas worldwide on October 16th.
