For a while, it was speculated that a fifth installment of the action-series Lethal Weapon would be made but leading actor Mel Gibson has declined on the idea of appearing in it.
Speaking to Coming Soon, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that he wasn’t keen on reprising his role as cop Martin Riggs who he played in all four previous Lethal Weapon films.
“No. I think the way things are going with Total Recall, they’ll just remake those somehow. Though it’s really tough to replace Danny Glover. He was so amazing in those things. It was a good gig for us. It worked. But we knew it would.
I had fun on every one of the Lethal Weapon films, and they were lucrative and good to me. And they really afforded me the opportunity to slow down and pick things and do things that really interested me. Like this Gringo thing which didn’t pay but it was a good thing to have done.”
Speculation has suggested that a new Lethal Weapon film from original director Richard Donner would be a reboot with new actors portraying the characters. Guess Mel finally figured out he was getting too darn old for his shit!
