Having previously worked together on four films in the space of eleven years (Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006) and Shutter Island (2010)), Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio and Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese have teamed up again to collaborate on a fifth project which continues to rely on a dark and gritty theme.
Their new fact-based film, The Wolf of Wall Street, is already being touted as another genuine awards contender with its amazing and wacky trailer making its debut last night.
Based on the bestselling memoir by the centred individual Jordan Belfort (played in the film by DiCaprio), it focuses on the Wall Street banker’s flamboyant life. After making a lot of money in the financial industry via illegal schemes, he would soon fall from grace by wasting it all on hard partying, booze and drugs.
The upcoming drama features a strong support cast including Jonah Hill (Superbad, Moneyball), Matthew McConaughey (Amistad, Magic Mike), Kyle Chandler (Super 8, Zero Dark Thirty), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, Silver Linings Playbook), Jon Favreau (Rudy, Iron Man 3), Margot Robbie (Neighbours, Pan Am), Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous) and Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist).
DiCaprio has already been busy this year with his differing roles as racist plantation owner Calvin Candie in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and as tragic millionaire Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.
The Wolf of Wall Street will be released in the UK on January 17th 2014.
