While he may be known to most of us as Smithy from the popular UK sitcom Gavin and Stacey, comedian actor James Corden has started to move away from that character with his recent roles in film and stage work (the latter of which saw him win a Tony award last year).
But his biggest cinematic project to date has arrived as he takes on the role of opera singer Paul Potts in the upcoming biopic One Chance. Produced by the Weinstein Company, the film has premiered its official trailer online.
Directed by David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me), the film charts Potts’ inspirational rise from ridiculed factory worker to singing sensation after he became the first winner of Britain’s Got Talent in 2007.
Oscar-nominee Julie Walters (Billy Elliot, Harry Potter series) and Colm Meaney (Con-Air, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa) co-star as Potts’ parents with further support coming from Alexandra Roach (The Iron Lady) and MacKenzie Crook (The Office, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy).
It has also been rumored that Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden makes cameos in the biopic.
Below is Potts’ real-life audition on the show which became a worldwide hit.
One Chance is set for release next month on October 25th.
