The search for an actor to play beloved Star Wars hero Han Solo in his younger years is finally over.
26 year old Alden Ehrenreich has officially been cast as the cocky smuggler in an origin film which will be helmed by director pair Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie).
As most people well know, the character was memorably portrayed by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy as well as last year’s successful installment The Force Awakens.
Ehrenreich was recently seen as fictional country western star Hobie Doyle in the Coen Bros‘ Hollywood caper Hail, Caesar! and has also appeared in Stoker, Beautiful Creatures and the Woody Allen dramedy Blue Jasmine (all 2013 releaes).
He beat off strong competition from the likes of Taron Egerton, Miles Teller, Jack Reynor, Ansel Elgort and Scott Eastwood to clinch the role after impressing executives at Disney and LucasFilm.
The film, which has yet to be named, will be released on May 25th 2018.
