Gal Gadot returns as Wonder Woman’s origins are explored in Wonder Woman trailer

After making an impressive debut as iconic superheroine Wonder Woman in the recent comic-book blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the beautiful Gal Gadot will be making a quick return to our screens as the Amazonian Princess in a new standalone film next year.

Fans will be happy to know that her role in this outing is more significant, as it will be exploring the character’s origins prior to her involvement in Dawn of Justice.

The first glimpse of Wonder Woman has now been unveiled at Comic Con via a promising trailer, which can be seen below:

Directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster, The Killing), the story focuses on the heroine’s background, in which she was originally Diana, princess of the Amazons. Whilst training to become a warrior, she encounters an American pilot who has washed up onto the shores of her island paradise.

When he reveals that the outside world is at war, Diana decides to help man fight against their enemies, which will help her discover her true destiny.

Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Star Trek Beyond) co-stars as pilot Steve Trevor with additional support coming from Robin Wright (Forrest Gump, House of Cards), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator, The Following), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Frankenstein), David Thewlis (Harry Potter series, The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting, Black Hawk Down), Elena Anaya (Room in Rome, The Skin I Live In) and an unrecognisable Lucy Davis (The Office, Shaun of the Dead).

Wonder Woman will be released in cinemas on 2 June 2017.
