As her iconic character Daenerys Targaryen prepares to conquer Westeros in the seventh series of Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke (Me Before You) has managed to land another high profile role in a money-making franchise, this time set in space!
In a surprising move, the British beauty has been cast in the female lead of the upcoming Han Solo spin-off which is part of the successful Star Wars series.
Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!, Rules Don’t Apply) is portraying the younger version of the cocky smuggler Han Solo (played memorably in the original trilogy by Harrison Ford) with the prequel focusing on his early adventures with his wookie companion Chewbacca.
It is not yet known which character Emilia will be playing though Lucasfilm have said that she will be one of “a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures”.
Donald Glover (Community, The Martian) is tackling another memorable Star Wars character in the form of Lando Calrissian, a fellow smugger-turned-politician who was previously portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original Star Wars trilogy.
Coincidentally, Clarke was also involved in another major sci-fi franchise when she played the young Sarah Connor in the underwhelming Terminator Genisys (2015).
The (still) untitled Han Solo film will hit cinemas on May 25th 2018.
