While he’s been earning the respect of Trekkie fans with his role as Captain James Kirk in the new Star Trek films, Chris Pine is about to take on another heroic fictional character in the form of renowned spy Jack Ryan.
The origins of Ryan are focused on in the new reboot of the spy series and given the unfortunate death of author Tom Clancy yesterday, Paramount have decided to pay tribute to the man behind the renowned series by releasing the latest film’s official trailer.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit focuses on the titular character’s early years as a marine who is taken on by the C.I.A and trained up to become a deadly spy.
British beauty Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean, Anna Karenina) returns to the action genre complete with US accent in her role as Jack’s wife Cathy with experienced support coming from Oscar-winner Kevin Costner (The Untouchables, JFK) as C.I.A analyst William Harper and Kenneth Branagh (Henry V, My Week with Marilyn) as the notorious Russian criminal Viktor Cherevin.
Branagh also directs the film which is the fifth Ryan outing to make the big-screen. Pine is the fourth actor to take on the role which was previously played by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum of all Fears).
If you look closely in that trailer, you’ll probably see glimpses of Liverpool which is where parts of the film were shot!
The film will be released in cinemas on Boxing Day.
