Channing Tatum battles to save president Jamie Foxx in official trailer for White House Down

Having become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the last couple of years, Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Magic Mike) is continuing to boost his filmography with his latest role as he attempts to protect the president in the upcoming action-thriller White House Down. The film, which is directed by blockbuster filmmaker Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow), has just unveiled its first trailer.

Tatum plays the role of police officer John Dale as he faces an uphill task to rescue president Jamie Foxx (Ray, Django Unchained) when the White House is taken over by a paramilitary organisation.

A solid support cast for the film includes Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Dark Knight, Crazy Heart), Jason Clarke (Lawless, Zero Dark Thirty), James Woods (Videodrome, Once Upon a Time in America), youngster Joey King (The Dark Knight Rises, Oz: The Great and Powerful) and Richard Jenkins (The Visitor, Killing Them Softly).

The film is due for release on June 28th after originally being penned for November.

Ironically a similar film in America has just been released in which Gerard Butler has to protect president Aaron Eckhart in the political-thriller Olympus Has Fallen.

Presidents on the big-screen never seem to catch a break do they?
