A quirky trailer has arrived for The Phoenician Scheme.

The upcoming dark comedy is the latest big-screen effort from creative filmmaker Wes Anderson following the successes of some of his previous films including The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Moonrise Kingdom (2012) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014).

The colourful story centres on a wealthy businessman who gets himself caught in the middle of an espionage plot while seeking to reconnect with his estranged daughter.

Oscar winner Benicio del Toro (Traffic, Sicario) leads the film’s starry cast which includes Mia Threapleton (I Am Ruth, The Buccaneers), Michael Cera (Arrested Development, Juno), Tom Hanks (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Trumbo), Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, Sound of Metal), Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The French Dispatch), Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, American Fiction), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd, The Watch), Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, Marriage Story), and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, The Power of the Dog).

The Phoenician Scheme will be released in UK cinemas on 23 May.
