Gird your loins folks, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is in development.
It has been confirmed that original stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci as well as director David Frankel and producer Wendy Finerman, are all in talks about returning for the long-awaited follow-up to the hit 2006 comedy.
Additionally, Aline Brosh McKenna is also set to come back on board as screenwriter after previously adapting the film’s script from the novel by Lauren Weisberger.
It is understood that the sequel’s plot will see ruthless magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Streep) navigates the decline of traditional print publication in the digital space. However, she soon discovers that former assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt) is now a high-powered executive for a luxury consortium, and who makes the decisions over where to place lucrative advertising contracts.
However, it is not yet known how much the characters of Andy Sachs (Hathaway) or Nigel (Tucci) will feature given their key roles in the first installment.
The Devil Wears Prada was positively well received by critics and grossed over $320 million in the worldwide box-office. Streep herself also earned rave reviews for her performance as Miranda and later became the recipient of a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination.
Groundbreaking news indeed!
