An official trailer has premiered for the long-anticipated King of the Hill reboot.
More than fifteen years after its initial cancellation, the Emmy-winning animated series from Mike Judge and Greg Daniels is returning with a new run of episodes that will continue to follow the lives of conservative Texas propane salesman Hank Hill and his erratic yet loyal circle of family and friends.
The series initially aired on Fox between 1997 and 2010 with over 250 episodes made during that period and provided fans with a number of memorable characters and moments.
The story picks up several years after the Hills were last seen on our television screens, as we see a-now-retired Hank and Peggy return to a changed Arlen after years of working in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, 21-year-old son Bobby is living his best life while navigating adulthood as a chef in Dallas and enjoying his 20s with his former classmates Connie, Joseph, and Chane.
On the voice casting front, co-creator Judge reprises his iconic vocal roles of Hank and friend and neighbour Boomhauer respectively alongside Kathy Najimy (Peggy Hill), Pamela Adlon (Bobby Hill), Stephen Root (Bill Dauterive), Ashley Gardner (Nancy Gribble) and Lauren Tom (Connie and Minh Souphanousinphone).
On a poignant note, Johnny Hardwick, who voiced Dale Gribble during the original run, returned to voice the character, but only recorded six episodes before his death in 2023. Toby Huss, who previously voiced Kahn Souphanousinphone, will step in to voice Dale for the remaining episodes, with Kahn now voiced by Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show).
After his tragic death last month, the late Jonathan Joss will feature posthumously as John Redcorn while the series also plans to acknowledge the passing of two other prominent King of the Hill voice actors; Brittany Murphy (Luanne Platter) who died in 2009, and musician Tom Petty (Lucky Kleinschmidt) who died in 2017.
In the meantime, Series 14 of King of the Hill will debut all ten of its episodes on Disney+ on 4 August, “I tell you hwat!”.
