The Moana story gets the Disney live-action remake treatment in new trailer for Moana

The official trailer for Moana has premiered online.

Helmed by Thomas Kail (Fosse/Verdon, Hamilton), the upcoming musical adventure is the latest in a long line of other animated Disney classics to be reimagined as a live-action film, with this particular outing arriving just ten years after the original first hit worldwide cinemas.

For those unfamiliar with the 2016 hit, the story follows Moana, the strong-willed daughter of a village chief, as she embarks on an epic seafaring adventure to restore prosperity to her people.

Australian starlet Catherine Laga’aia (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart) steps into the shoes of our young heroine, while Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji trilogy, Jungle Cruise) reprises his role as beloved demigod Maui after voicing the character in the previous animated incarnations.

Additionally, the rest of the cast includes Rena Owen (Once Were Warriors, Siren) as Gramma Tala, John Tui (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Solo: A Star Wars Story) as Chief Tui, and Frankie Adams (Mortal Engines, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart) as Sina.

Fans of the original film will be intrigued to see how far this live-action remake will go when it arrives in UK cinemas on 10 July.
