The official trailer for Toy Story 5 is finally here.
The fifth instalment of the widely-popular Pixar animated series sees toy companions Woody, Buzz Lightyear and co. reunite for yet another big-screen outing seven years after their last appearances in Toy Story 4 (2019).
Helmed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E), the plot sees Buzz, Jessie and the gang come face-to-face with Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that arrives with her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their young owner, Bonnie.
However, the unexpected return of old friend Woody soon inspires the gang to fight back against their high-tech adversary.
Once again, Tom Hanks (Woody) and Tim Allen (Buzz) lead the returning voice ensemble alongside Joan Cusack (Jessie), Tony Hale (Forky), John Ratzenberger (Hamm), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Blake Clark (Slinky Dog), Annie Potts (Bo Peep), Bonnie Hunt (Dolly), Kristen Schaal (Trixie), Melissa Villaseñor (Karen Beverly) and Keanu Reeves (Duke Caboom).
Additionally, there are some notable recasts for the latest film with the voices of Mr and Mrs. Potato Head, and Combat Carl now provided by Jeff Bergman (Jetsons: The Movie, Space Jam: A New Legacy), Anna Vocino (Batman: The Killing Joke, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts) and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters, The Crow) after the passings of original actors Don Rickles, Estelle Harris and Carl Weathers.
Meanwhile, Greta Lee (The Morning Show, Past Lives) leads the voice roster of new cast additions as the scheming Lilypad, and is joined by Craig Robinson (The Office, The Bad Guys), Shelby Rabara (Steven Universe, Goliath), Scarlett Spears ( Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, Wicked: For Good), Mykal-Michelle Harris (Big Little Lies, Mixed-ish), Matty Matheson (The Bear), John Hopkins (Midsomer Murders, Masters of the Air) and comedian Conan O’Brien (The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien Must Go) as Smarty Pants.
With four films already under its belt, the Toy Story franchise has made big waves in the world of cinema since the first instalment made its big-screen debut in 1995 with over $3 billion grossed at the box-office.
Understandably, there will be some concerns about whether this new outing can be as cherished as its predecessors, especially when the previous two films (most particularly Toy Story 3) were seen as fitting conclusions to the story.
Nevertheless, fans will get a chance to judge Toy Story 5 for themselves when it reaches cinemas worldwide on 19 June.
