Washed-up actor Michael Keaton seeks to make a comeback on Broadway in Birdman trailer

Filmed in one continuous take, the dark comedy is being touted as one of the most lucrative contenders of the upcoming awards season.

Helmed by renowned filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu (Amores Perros, Babel), the plot follows a washed-up actor who seeks to prove himself after struggling to move away from his popular role as iconic superhero Birdman. However, his attempts to mount a new play on Broadway soon bring chaos as his ego threatens to tarnish the production.

In a career-defining role, Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice, Batman) tackles the key part of Riggan Thomson alongside a strong support cast that includes Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover trilogy, The Campaign), Edward Norton (American History X, Fight Club), Andrea Riseborough (Brighton Rock, Oblivion), Amy Ryan (The Wire, Gone Baby Gone), Emma Stone (Easy A, The Help), and Naomi Watts (21 Grams, The Impossible).

Birdman will be released in UK cinemas on 1 January 2015.
