Former alcoholic Saoirse Ronan tries to come to terms with her troubled past in The Outrun trailer

The official trailer for The Outrun is here.

The upcoming drama looks to be another awards vehicle for acclaimed Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn, Lady Bird) as she seeks to make it fifth time lucky at the Oscars.

Directed by Nora Fingscheidt (System Crasher, The Unforgivable) and based on the 2016 memoir by Amy Liptrot, the story centres on a former alcoholic who attempts to rebuild her life back in Scotland’s Orkney Islands after a troubled time in London.

Ronan is joined in the film by a stellar support cast that includes Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, The Lazarus Project), Nabil Elouahabi (EastEnders, The Tower), Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point, Big Boys), Lauren Lyle (Outlander, Karen Pirie), Saskia Reeves (Close My Eyes, Slow Horses), and Stephen Dillane (The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall, Game of Thrones).

The Outrun will be released in UK cinemas on 27 September.
