Fifty years ago, one of the most successful film franchises began with Sean Connery taking on the role of British secret agent James Bond. Now all those years later, 007 (played now by Daniel Craig) is about to return to our screens after the first trailer for his newest film Skyfall was released this morning.
Craig returns for his third film as Bond (after Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace) with the plot focusing on his boss M (Judi Dench) being confronted by a former figure from her past.
Given the disappointment of Quantum, this looks far more exhilarating with lots of running from Craig , some nice-looking locations and of course, some impressive action set-pieces particularly one of a tube train crashing in the London Underground. We also get to see Dame Judi pop up again in what is rumoured to be her last appearance in the franchise while newcomers Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe appear too before the trailer finishes off with a snippet of the iconic Bond theme.
This will certainly revive interest from those who felt Solace was underwhelming especially after the popularity of Casino Royale. But with someone as solid as Sam Mendes (American Beauty) handling directing duties, this could turn out to be the best film of the trilogy. We will have to wait till October 26th before judging it for ourselves!
