A young Haymitch Abernathy participates in the 50th Hunger Games in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping trailer

A full-length trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has arrived.

Based on the 2025 novel by renowned author Suzanne Collins, the upcoming dystopian action flick serves as another prequel to The Hunger Games and is the sixth instalment of the hit Hunger Games film series.

Set 24 years before the events of the first film, the story follows a young Haymitch Abernathy as he finds himself selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games which occurs every 25 years with a twist to the rules.

Rising Australian star Joseph Zada (Invisible Boys, We Were Liars) tackles the lucrative role of Haymitch, who was previously played in the original Hunger Games franchise by Woody Harrelson.

Additionally, the rest of the film’s impressive cast includes Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog, Bugonia) as Plutarch Heavensbee, Elle Fanning (The Great, Sentimental Value) as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin, (Succession, A Real Pain) as Caesar Flickerman, Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Regretting You) as Maysilee Donner, Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl, Thrash) as Leonore Dove Baird, Maya Hawke (Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood, Stranger Things) as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Waves, Cyrano) as Beetee Latier, Ben Wang (Mean Girls, The Long Walk) as Wyatt Callow, Billy Porter (Pose, Cinderella) as Magno Stift, Iris Apatow (The Bubble, Pretty Lethal) as Proserpina Trinket, Lili Taylor (The Conjuring, American Crime) as Mags Flanagan, Kara Tointon (EastEnders, Archie) as Willamae Abernathy, Laura Marcus (The Great Escaper, Death by Lightning) as Silka Sharp, Edvin Ryding (Young Royals, 28 Years Later) as Vitus, Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, Conclave) as President Coriolanus Snow and Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons) as Drusilla Sickle.

Once again, Francis Lawrence returns to direct the latest cinematic instalment after previously working on four previous Hunger Games outings including Catching Fire (2013) and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023).

In the meantime, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released in UK cinemas on 20 November.
