David Tennant’s Lord Tony Baddingham seeks revenge on the Venturer team in Rivals (Series 2) trailer

A spectacular new trailer has premiered for the long-anticipated return of the BAFTA-winning series Rivals.

Based on the beloved Rutshire Chronicles by the late Dame Jilly Cooper, the raunchy 80s-set period drama is back with an expanded second series, and promises to turn up the heat on a number of fan-favourite characters.

The new series sees a vengeful Lord Tony Baddingham embark on a mission to destroy Rupert Campbell-Black and Declan O’Hara’s rival television company Venturer, while the personal lives of other Rutshire heroes spiral into chaos in late 1980s England.

As expected, David Tennant, Alex Hassell and Aidan Turner reprise their iconic roles as Lord Tony, Rupert and Declan respectively, and are joined by other returning favourites including Nafessa Williams as Cameron Cook, Bella Maclean as Taggie O’Hara, Katherine Parkinson as Lizzie Vereker, Danny Dyer as Freddie Jones, Victoria Smurfit as Maud O’Hara, Claire Rushbrook as Lady Monica Baddingham, Oliver Chris as James Vereker, Lisa McGrillis as Valerie Jones, Emily Atack as Sarah Stratton, Rufus Jones as Paul Stratton, Luca Pasqualino as Basil “Bas” Baddingham, Catriona Chandler as Caitlin O’Hara, Annabel Scholey as Beattie Johnson, Gary Lamont as Charles Fairburn, Hubert Burton as Gerald Middleton, Gabriel Tierney as Patrick O’Hara, Lara Peake as Daysee Butler, Bryony Hannah as Dierdre Kilpatrick, Antony Byrne as Ginger Baines, Gabriel Tierney as Patrick O’Hara, Denise Black as Joyce Madden, David Calder as Reverend Fergus Penney, Brendan Patricks as Henry Hampshire, Olivia Poulet as Hermione Hampshire, Louis Landau as Archie Baddingham, Jamie Bisping as Kevin Makepiece, Emma Shipp as Shelley Makepiece, Selina Griffiths as Dame Enid Spink and Maggie Steed as Lady Gosling.

Additionally, there are some notable additions to the subline ensemble including Hayley Atwell (Brideshead Revisited, Agent Carter) as Helen Gordon, Eliot Salt (Slow Horses, We Live in Time) as Caroline “Muffy” Hampshire, Jonny Weldon (House of the Dragon, One Day) as Mike Maples, Maxim Ays (Sanditon, Boarders) as Sebbie Carlisle, Bobby Lockwood (Wolfblood, Dunkirk) as Dommie Carlisle, Holly Cattle (COBRA, Young Sherlock) as Perdita Macleod and Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding, Adult Material) as Malise Gordon.

The second series of Rivals will roll out in two six-episode batches on Disney +, beginning with a three-episode premiere on 15 May, followed by the second batch later this year.
