West End hit Everybody’s Talking About Jamie gets the big-screen treatment in official trailer

Over the years, a number of West End musicals have gone on to achieve big success as cinematic adaptations including The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Evita and Mamma Mia!.

One production looking to join that exclusive list is Everybody’s Talking About Jamie which made its West End debut back in 2017.

Based on the life of Sheffield teenager Jamie Campbell, the musical was well-received upon its release and will be hoping for an equally-positive reception on the big-screen.

Scheduled for release early next year, the film’s official trailer promises plenty of glitz and glamour as well as a story with heart.

Helmed by the show’s stage director Jonathan Butterell, the story follows sixteen-year old Jamie as he battles to overcome prejudice and bullying in order to become a drag queen.

Newcomer Max Harwood tackles the coveted role of Jamie alongside fellow starlet Lauren Patel as his best friend Pritti.

Additionally, the film also welcomes a number of versatile co-stars including Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant (Withnail & I, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) as Hugo Battersby / Loco Chanelle, Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe, Game Night) as Miss Hedge, Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley, Yesterday) as Margaret, Shobna Gulati (Dinnerladies, Coronation Street) as Ray, Adeel Akhtar (Four Lions, Murdered By My Father) as Iman, Samuel Bottomley (Tyrannosaur, Ackley Bridge) as Dean and Ralph Ineson (The Office, Chernobyl) as Wayne.

The musical also welcomes the involvement of The Feeling frontman Dan Gillespie Sells who helped write the original songs.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is (currently) set for release in the UK on 22 January 2021.
