Thor and the Hulk team up to fight Cate Blanchett’s villain in Thor: Ragnarok trailer

With Marvel continuing to expand their Cinematic Universe, Thor has become the second major superhero after Iron Man to get his own film trilogy.

Played once again by Chris Hemsworth, the Asgardian Avenger is back for his toughest challenge yet alongside a few familiar faces in the upcoming threequel Thor: Ragnorak.

Following the release of a teaser trailer back in April, a full-length version has now been released.

Directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), the plot sees Thor imprisoned on the other side of the universe as he battles to return to Asgard in order to save his civilization from a new enemy.

Having only appeared in the Avengers films so far, Mark Ruffalo is back as the Hulk who ends up going head-to-head with Thor in the arena where both heroes are being held captive. Benedict Cumberbatch is also set to feature in this outing following his impressive turn as Doctor Strange in his own origin film from last year.

Two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett (Middle Earth saga, Cinderella) is the high-profile newcomer to this franchise as she portrays the villainous Hela. Other actors making their debuts in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) include Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day) as the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (Creed, Westworld) as Valkyrie and Karl Urban (Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Trek trilogy) as Skurge.

Additionally, Tom Hiddleston is back as Thor’s sinister half-brother Loki along with Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Jaimie Alexander as Sif.

However there is no place in the film for Natalie Portman who has chosen not to reprise her role as Thor’s love interest Jane Foster.

Thor: Ragnorak will be released in the UK on October 27th.
