The Minions search for a master in official trailer for Despicable Me prequel Minions

In recent years, young audiences have become enchanted by the single-cell yellow-organisms that are the Minions from the hit animated film Despicable Me and its sequel.

Their overwhelming success has unsurprisingly led to Universal Pictures giving the go-ahead for a prequel film to be made about their evolution before working for Despicable Me hero Gru.

A full-length trailer for the origin film Minions has been released online.

The story sees three of the minions (Kevin, Stuart and Bob) struggle to find a villainous leader to work for. Over the course of history, they try to follow various bosses including Dracula and Napoleon but to no avail. Their situation eventually changes when they embark on an epic journey from Antarctica to 1960s New York and London before facing a challenge to save the world.

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, Gravity) voices female super-villain Scarlett Overkill with additional vocal support coming from Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Bridemaids), Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice, Batman), Allison Janney (The West Wing, Mom) and Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, Philomena).

The film will be released in the UK on June 26th 2015.
