The Home Guard are back to defend Walmington-on-Sea in official trailer for new-look Dad’s Army film

Stand at ease everyone, Britain’s favourite platoon are back!

To the despair of some loyal fans, the beloved BBC sitcom Dad’s Army (1968-1977) has become the recipient of a surprise big-screen outing albeit with new faces playing the iconic characters.

The loyal yet inept fighting unit are back for more slapstick antics in the film’s official trailer.

Directed by Oliver Parker (The Importance of Being Earnest, St Trinians), the plot sees Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson and co. having to track down a spy who has sneaked into the town of Walmington-on-Sea during the climax of World War II.

BAFTA-winning actors Toby Jones (Infamous, The Girl) and Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Pride) are tackling the iconic roles of the authoritative Captain George Mainwaring and the polite Sergeant Arthur Wilson respectively.

The rest of the main platoon cast is completed by Tom Courtenay (The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, 45 Years) as bumbling butcher Lance Corporal Jack Jones, Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners) as naive Private Frank Pike, Bill Paterson (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Law and Order) as moody Scot Private James Frazer, Daniel Mays (Atonement, Mrs Biggs) as the wheeling-dealing Private Joe Walker and Sir Michael Gambon (Harry Potter series, The King’s Speech) as the kind-hearted Private Charles Godfrey.

Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Mask of Zorro, Chicago) also features as a glamorous reporter named Rose Winters whose presence in Walmington causes a stir.

Additional support comes from Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Game of Thrones) as Colonel Theakes, Sarah Lancashire (Coronation Street, Happy Valley) as Mavis Pike, Alison Steadman (Life is Sweet, Gavin and Stacey) as Mrs Fox, Annette Crosbie (One Foot in the Grave, Calender Girls) as Cissy Godfrey, Holli Dempsey (Ice Cream Girls, Derek) as Vera, Emily Atack (The Inbetweeners, The Hoarder) as Daphne and Felicity Montagu (I’m Alan Partridge, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa) as the previously-unseen Elizabeth Mainwaring.

Dad’s Army will open in UK cinemas on February 5th 2016.

A lot of people are probably thinking what if it disappoints?! Don’t panic, don’t panic! It might not be that bad but if it is, then we’re doomed….DOOMED!
