The guardians are unveiled in official trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

While a lot of us are waiting patiently for The Avengers: Age of Ultron to come out, Marvel have finally released the first trailer for their newest comic-book blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy.

The two-and-a-half minute preview (which brilliantly uses Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” towards the end) introduces us to our latest Marvel heroes and their enemies with this being the studio’s first non-sequel since 2011.

Directed by rookie filmmaker James Gunn (Super), the film stars Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, The Lego Movie) as leading protagonist Peter Quill, an airline pilot who joins a group of bizarre creatures known as the Guardians as they battle it out with the villainous Ronan (played by The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’s Lee Pace).

The other actors portraying the Guardians consist of Zoe Saldaña (Avatar, Star Trek into Darkness) as Gamora and WWE wrestle Dave Bautista as warrior Drax the Destroyer while Vin Diesel (Riddick, The Fast and the Furious) and Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle) provide the voices of Groot and Rocket Racoon respectively.

The rest of the film’s talented cast includes a head-shaven Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as notorious warrior Nebula, Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, The Wolfman) as Taneleer Tivan), Djimon Hounsou (Amistad, Gladiator) as Korath the Pursuer, Michael Rooker (Cliffhanger, The Walking Dead) as Yondu, John C. Reilly (Chicago, Step Brothers) as Rhomann Dey and Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, Damages) as Commander Rael.

The highly-anticipated blockbuster will be released in cinemas on August 1st.
