Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly portray legendary duo Laurel and Hardy in Stan & Ollie trailer

“Well, here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten me into.”

When it comes to iconic double acts, no comedy pair has come close to the genius of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

The beloved duo made audiences laugh with joy through their various films during the early 20th Century which ranged from Another Fine Mess (1930) and The Music Box (1932) to Sons of the Desert (1933) and of course, Way Out West (1937).

Their legacy still lives on today which is why it’s not surprising to see that they are now the subject of an upcoming biopic. Entitled Stan & Ollie, the film’s official trailer has premiered on Twitter.

Directed by Jon S. Baird (Filth, Vinyl), the story centres on Stan and Ollie in their twilight years as they embark on a gruelling farewell tour of Britain’s variety halls in 1953. Despite their hectic schedule, the pair’s close friendship enables them to perform to their adoring public.

No strangers to comedy themselves, BAFTA-winner Steve Coogan (I’m Alan Partridge, Philomena) and Oscar-nominee John C. Reilly (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Step Brothers) play Laurel and Hardy respectively.

There is also additional casting support from Nina Arianda (Midnight in Paris, Florence Foster Jenkins) as Ida Laurel, Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter series, Bridget Jones trilogy) as Lucille Hardy, Rufus Jones (Hunderby, W1A) as theatrical impresario Bernard Delfont and Danny Huston (The Constant Gardener, Hitchcock) as legendary film director Hal Roach.

The script is penned is BAFTA-winning writer Jeff Pope (Philomena, Cilla, Little Boy Blue) with the film’s release date set for January 11th 2019.
