Star Wars characters old and new feature in second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Over four months have passed since the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited Star Wars sequel The Force Awakens was released and many fans have been waiting impatiently for more footage to emerge since.

Fortunately the arrival of a second trailer tonight has ramped up the anticipation to an all-time high as the countdown for the film’s release continues.

The new teaser for the seventh installment of the renowned sci-fi franchise was shown to fans at the Star Wars Celebration Event by producer Kathleen Kennedy and director J.J Abrams and can now be viewed online.

As was the case with the original trailer, there are still NO details over the film’s plot which is still being kept top secret but the timeline will be set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

The new footage involves a voiceover from an old Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) as he talks about sharing the force with his late father Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (whose burnt helmet is glimpsed in the trailer) and his sister Leia (Carrie Fisher). One particular moment sees the surviving Jedi knight placing his right hand on dedicated droid R2-D2.

Newcomers John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) also feature again in the preview as do the new-look stormtroopers and the mysterious Sith Lord.

Just like the previous trailer, the Millenium Falcon is seen trying to evade pressure from TIE-Fighters this time by flying inside an old Empire Star Destroyer which has been neglected since the battle in Return of the Jedi.

The concluding moment in the footage sees Star Wars favourite Han Solo (Harrison Ford) telling his loyal sidekick Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) that they are home whilst inside their iconic ship.

Fans will have to wait longer to see other acting newcomers in the next trailer which include Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie and Max Von Sydow.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in cinemas on December 18th 2015.
