After a brief hiatus, Will Smith is starting to bring his A-game back following his involvement in the recent box-office hit Focus.

But with a rare villainous role coming up in the supervillain blockbuster Suicide Squad, the Independence Day and Men in Black actor is set for a more award-worthy turn in the form of Concussion.

The real-life sports drama, which is produced by Sir Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator), premiered its official trailer earlier today.

Directed by Peter Landesman (Parkland), the story sees Smith play Dr. Bennet Omalu, a renowned neuropathologist who discovered that many former NFL players were committing suicide because of concussions suffered from their playing days. Omalu would risk his career by challenging the NFL to acknowledge the traumas.

The story is based on the 2009 GQ investigative report Game Brain by Jeanne Marie Laskas.

Smith is joined by a stellar support cast which includes his Suicide Squad co-star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Oz, Lost), Alec Baldwin (The Departed, 30 Rock), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle, Jupiter Ascending), Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky, Ray Donovan), Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde, Old School), David Morse (The Rock, True Detective) and Albert Brooks (Taxi Driver, Drive).

Concussion will be out in the UK on January 29th.
