Spider-Man to stay in the MCU following crucial deal between Marvel and Sony

Last month saw Spider-Man’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe left in heavy doubt after talks between Marvel and Sony Pictures had broken down.

Unsurprisingly, this led to worldwide hysteria as fans were lamenting the initial loss of the web-slinging superhero so soon after his previous big-screen outing: Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Thankfully, order has now been restored after the two companies confirmed that Spidey will remain in the MCU with a third film currently in the works. A new deal was signed late on Thursday night with negotiations involving top players from both studios.

Additionally, leading man Tom Holland is set to continue his popular role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man along with his co-stars from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Far From Home.

Marvel president Kevin Feige issued a statement speaking of his delight about the news:

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it.

Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

The news is also a huge relief for fans especially after the cliffhanger of Far From Home which saw Peter’s identity publicly exposed by his nemesis Mysterio.

The currently-untitled Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for release on July 16 2021.
