Fans of the hit animated TV show Family Guy have been waiting impatiently for the Griffin family to make it onto the big-screen for a freakin’ while now. But creator Seth MacFarlane has said that the film will eventually happen after he spoke about his ideas to UCLA students earlier this week.
Entertainment Weekly revealed that MacFarlane told the students about the project being a slow-burner and that he didn’t want it to end up having a similar storyline to The Simpsons Movie (2007).
“It’s just a matter of when. It’s hard to do that while you have the series going on at the same time; I think that’s why it took The Simpsons 20 seasons to figure out how to do it. We do know what the Family Guy movie will be. The Simpsons Movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it’s a story they probably could’ve done on TV. There could’ve been an episode that had that plotline. That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.”
No other details have been disclosed yet with MacFarlane currently concentrating on his Oscar presenting job in February. However fans can only hope that the proposed film will end up being on the same level as South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) in terms of humour and clinical writing.
More of this news will be presented to you by Tom Tucker when we get it….
