Ryan Reynolds voices Pikachu as he seeks to become a detective in POKÉMON Detective Pikachu trailer

For over twenty years, the POKÉMON universe has appealed to many young fans especially through the highly successful Gameboy games, television series and more recently, the mobile phone app POKÉMON Go.

The anime franchise is now getting the live-action treatment via an upcoming film entitled POKÉMON Detective Pikachu. An official trailer for the action-adventure has landed with a number of our favourite POKÉMON characters appearing in CGI form….

Directed by Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Gulliver’s Travels), the plot centres on a familiar world where people collect pocket-size monsters known as POKÉMON to do battle. When a detective goes missing, his son Tim teams up with the wise-cracking Pikachu as the pair look to track him down.

Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Hitman’s Bodyguard) provides the voice of the fuzzy Pikachu with Justice Smith (Paper Towns, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) playing the young lead.

There are also roles in the film for Rita Ora (Southpaw, Fifty Shades trilogy), Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Godzilla), Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Suki Waterhouse (Insurgent, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies), Karan Soni (Ghostbusters, Deadpool 2) and Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean series, Dad’s Army).

POKÉMON Detective Pikachu will arrive in UK cinemas on May 10th 2019.
