Next year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the historical moon landing which became known as one of the most significant moments in mankind.
Though films like The Right Stuff (1983), Apollo 13 (1996) and Hidden Figures (2016) have explored key NASA missions of that era, the story of the famous Apollo 11 voyage has yet to be depicted on the big-screen….until now.
Following their recent work on the Oscar-winning musical La La Land (2016), director Damien Chazelle (Whiplash) has reunited with Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Nice Guys) to make a biopic about that legendary mission.
Entitled First Man, the film’s official trailer can be seen below:
The true story centres on astronaut Neil Armstrong (Gosling) as he and his crewmates went through a gruelling program as part of their preparations to try and win the Space Race against the USSR in the 1960s.
Fresh from her award-winning portrayal of a young Elizabeth I in The Crown, British actress Claire Foy co-stars as Armstrong’s wife. There is also additional casting support from Corey Stoll (House of Cards, Ant-Man) and Lukas Haas (Witness, Inception)as Armstrong’s crew mates Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins plus Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, The Wolf of Wall Street), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black, 13 Hours), Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous, Gone Girl), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, Agent Carter), Christopher Abbott (Girls, The Sinner) and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones, The Terror).
You can see Gosling take one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind when First Man is released in the UK on October 12th.
