Renee Zellweger returns as a pregnant Bridget Jones in official trailer for Bridget Jones’s Baby

Back in 2001, audiences were won over by Renee Zellweger’s impressive portrayal of frumpy, single lady Bridget Jones (complete with British accent) in the hit rom-com Bridget Jones’s Diary. The film was a big-screen adaptation of the popular novels written by Helen Fielding.

The Oscar-winning star of Chicago and Cinderella Man then reprised the role for the 2004 follow-up The Edge of Reason although its reception was underwhelming compared to its predecessor.

However after a Hollywood hiatus and a surprise makeover, Zellweger is making her cinematic comeback as she returns to the character for a third film entitled Bridget Jones’s Baby. Its official trailer has been released and can be seen below:

Helmed by Bridget Jones’s Diary director Sharon Maguire, the plot sees our heroine experience new life changes such as turning 40 and becoming pregnant.

Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, Kingsman: The Secret Service) is the other high profile name returning for the sequel as he reprises his role as Bridget’s on-off partner Mark Darcy.

Other original cast members are back too including Jim Broadbent (Mr Jones), Gemma Jones (Mrs Jones), Celia Imrie (Una Alconbury), Sally Phillips (Shazza) and James Callis (Tom).

However there will be no appearance from Hugh Grant as Bridget’s devilish former lover Daniel Cleaver although Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Enchanted) features as Bridget’s newest admirer.

We also get a surprise cameo towards the end of the trailer from Oscar-winner Emma Thompson (Howard’s End, Saving Mr Banks) as a doctor who tends to Bridget’s pregnancy.

Bridget Jones’s Baby is scheduled for released on September 16th.
