Razzie winners: Movie 43 and After Earth amongst the big losers

While Hollywood eagerly awaits the arrival of the 86th Annual Academy Awards tonight, the not-so-good of cinema was judged upon by a different sort of awards ceremony last night.

The 34th Annual Razzie Awards handed out accolades to some of the past year’s poorest features with critically-mauled rom-com Movie 43 clinching the Worst Picture gong.

The film, which stars big names like Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Kate Winslet, also won Worst Screenplay and Worst Director for thirteen of the filmmakers who had a part in directing it.

Another film that won three prizes was M. Night Shylaman’s sci-fi dud After Earth which landed Worst Acting awards for father-son pairing Will (Supporting Actor) and Jaden Smith (Leading Actor) as well as Worst On-Screen Combination.

The Worst Actress accolade was given to male actor Tyler Perry for his role in the crap festive flick A Madea Christmas while reality star Kim Kardashian was named Worst Supporting Actress for Perry’s other flop, Temptation.

Gore Verbinski’s box-office flop The Lone Ranger won the Worst Remake/Sequel ahead of The Hangover Part III and Scary Movie 5.

Surprisingly, the comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 avoided winning anything despite being the most-nominated film in this year’s awards. Hollywood superstars like Johnny Depp, Naomi Watts and Sylvester Stallone also avoided recognition.
