The past year has given audiences plenty of entertaining and acclaimed films to savour though there’s been a few flicks that have been the complete opposite.

Remakes and sequels dominate proceedings again in this year’s Razzie Award lineup as the Transformers and Fifty Shades franchises both took major hits.

Michael Bay’s sci-fi blockbuster sequel Transformers: The Last Knight leads the way with nine nominations which includes the not-so-great Worst Picture award. Bay is once again nominated for Worst Director while stars Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Josh Duhamel and Laura Haddock are all competing in various acting categories.

The erotic drama follow-up Fifty Shades Darker has eight nods which include Worst Picture and Worst Director (James Foley) plus acting nominations for leading pair Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson plus Oscar-winning actress Kim Basinger.

The Worst Picture lineup is completed by the animated flop The Emoji Movie and critically-panned remakes Baywatch and The Mummy. The latter film also earned acting mentions for Hollywood star Tom Cruise plus Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella.

Elsewhere, multiple Oscar winning actors were ridiculed in various categories with Jennifer Lawrence receiving her first Razzie nod for her performance in the diverse horror mother!. Her co-star Javier Bardem (also nominated for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Mel Gibson (Daddy’s Home 2), Goldie Hawn (Snatched) and Susan Sarandon (Bad Moms Christmas) also took heavy blows in this year’s lineup.

Another young starlet to earn an unwarranted mention is Emma Watson who is shortlisted in Worst Actress for her role in the Netflix thriller The Circle.

Fourteen years after receiving an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Johnny Depp has the misfortune of being recognised in Worst Actor for playing the character again in the fifth film of the Pirates series Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The 2018 awards ceremony will take place on March 3rd, one day before the Oscars!
