Ray Donovan to return with feature-length film

Last February, Ray Donovan fans were left distraught after the hit Showtime series was cancelled in the aftermath of its seventh season.

Despite that initial blow, leading star Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) assured dedicated followers of the Golden Globe-winning show that it would return in some sort of format.

One year later, fans can finally rejoice at the news that television’s favourite fixer is set to return for a feature-length film that will bring the Ray Donovan story to a satisfying conclusion.

On the news, Gary Levine, Co-President of Entertainment at Showtime said:

“When Ray Donovan went off our air after seven great seasons, we heard from so many of its loyal fans that they were not ready to say goodbye to Ray and the wonderfully dysfunctional Donovan clan.

And so, for them, we are delighted that Liev and David are creating a thrilling new chapter of this iconic series.”

As things stand, Schreiber is set to be joined in the big-screen spinoff by long-term co-stars Jon Voight (Mickey Donovan) and Kerris Dorsey (Bridget Donovan). It also likely that we will see Eddie Marsan (Terry Donovan), Dash Mihok (Brendan “Bunchy” Donovan) and Pooch Hall (Daryll) return to complete the rest of the Donovan clan that featured in Series 7.

When we last saw television’s favourite fixer, he had dug himself a hole (quite literally!) after avenging the murder of his sister. The official synopsis for this outing reads:

“The new film picks up where season 7 left off, with Mickey in the wind and Ray determined to find and stop him before he can cause any more carnage. It will also weave together the present-day fallout from the Donovan/Sullivan feud with Ray and Mickey’s origin story from 30 years ago.”

Production is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year in New York.
