Phoebe Waller-Bridge cast as female lead in Indiana Jones 5

After picking up a bucket-load of Emmys for her work on the acclaimed BBC sitcom Fleabag (2016-19), Phoebe Waller-Bridge has managed to land a lucrative role in the long-delayed action sequel Indiana Jones 5.

The British writer and actress will star alongside Harrison Ford, who is returning to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist, for the fifth instalment of the iconic franchise.

In addition to Phoebe’s casting, the sequel also welcomes back legendary composer John Williams who scored the previous four Indy outings; Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Temple of Doom (1984), The Last Crusade (1989) and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).

With Steven Spielberg only onboard as producer, the role of director for this outing has been handed to James Mangold (Logan, Le Mans ’66). On today’s news, he said:

“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers.

Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

Incidentally, this is the third film series that Phoebe has been involved with having previously voiced L3-37 in the Star Wars prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story (2017) and co-written the script for the upcoming James Bond blockbuster No Time to Die.

Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled for release on July 29 2022.
