Peter Pan and a young Hook tackle Hugh Jackman’s Blackbeard in official trailer for Pan

The story of Peter Pan has been told quite often on the big-screen particularly with the 1955 Disney animation and Steven Spielberg’s Hook (1991).

But the latest cinematic adaptation of the boy who never grew up takes us down a new path by focusing on the young hero’s origins in the upcoming release Pan.

Directed by Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement), the film’s official trailer premiered online earlier this evening.

The story shows Peter (played by newcomer Levi Miller) being whisked away from his orphanage home in London by a group of pirates led by the sinister Captain Blackbeard. Upon arriving at Neverland, he and the other Lost Boys join forces with a young Captain Hook as they look to bring Blackbeard down.

Oscar-nominee Hugh Jackman (X-Men series, Les Miserables) sports a cook beard to play the villainous pirate with Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy, On the Road) appearing as Hook and Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Her) controversially cast as the Indian princess Tiger Lily.

Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!, Les Miserables) and Kathy Burke (Nil by Mouth, Gimme Gimme Gimme) also feature in the fantasy adventure.

Pan will be released in cinemas on 15th July 2015.
