For almost forty years, the Golden Rasperry Awards (or the Razzies) have acknowledged the worst in film with the tradition being that they announce their nominations a day before the Oscars reveal theirs….

This year’s lineup sees four films up for six nominations which include the political documentary Death of a Nation. In what has been a manic time for him recently, President Donald Trump has the misfortune of being nominated in the Worst Actor category for his appearances in both Death of a Nation and the Michael Moore-documentary Fahrenheit 11/9. He is also nodded in the Worst Screen Combo lineup for his “Perpetual Pettiness and Self Pity”. We all know that the Don will probably dismiss this story as “FAKE NEWS”….

Additionally, Trump’s wife Melania and his aide Kellyanne Conway are both up for Worst Supporting Actress with Death of a Nation also recognised in Worst Screenplay and Worst Remake/Sequel.

The other three ‘stinkers’ to receive six mentions are the crime biopic Gotti, the raunchy puppet caper The Happytime Murders and the Sherlock Holmes spoof Holmes & Watson with all three shortlisted in Worst Film along with the latest Robin Hood reboot.

No stranger to previous Razzie ‘success’, John Travolta is in contention for Worst Actor for his portrayal of criminal John Gotti in Gotti with his real-life wife Kelly Preston nodded in Worst Supporting Actress. Travolta’s opponents in Worst Actor include Will Ferrell for Holmes & Watson, Bruce Willis for the Death Wish remake and Johnny Depp for his vocal role in Sherlock Gnomes.

Elsewhere, Melissa McCarthy is up for Worst Actress for her lead role in The Happytime Murders though she does have the consolation of possibly receiving her second Oscar nod tomorrow for Can You Ever Forgive Me?. Her competition in that category includes Dame Helen Mirren for the horror Winchester and Amber Heard for the crime flop London Fields.

Other high-profile names to land acting mentions include previous Oscar winners Jamie Foxx (Robin Hood) and Marcia Gay Harden (Fifty Shades Freed) plus John C. Reilly (Holmes & Watson), Jennifer Garner (Peppermint), Amanda Seyfried (The Clapper) and Joel McHale (The Happytime Murders).

The 39th Razzie awards will take place the day before the Oscars on February 23rd.
