The last few years have been pretty quiet for Natalie Portman, barring the odd couple of mainstream roles.
The Oscar-winning star of the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999-2005), Black Swan (2010) and Thor (2011) has found herself dealing with commitments as a mother as well as the chaotic production of her western drama Jane Got a Gun (2015).
However, Portman is now looking to return to the awards circuit with her upcoming role as one of America’s most loved figures in Jackie Kennedy, the widow of the assassinated president John F. Kennedy.
The biopic, simply entitled Jackie, has premiered a full length trailer.
Produced by Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan) and directed by Pablo Larraín (The Club, Neruda), the story focuses on the First Lady’s struggles in the aftermath of her husband’s shocking death. Despite her grief, she fights to regain her faith and define JFK’s historic legacy.
Portman is supported in the film by Peter Sarsgaard (An Education, Black Mass) as Robert Kennedy and John Carroll Lynch (Shutter Island, Ted 2) as Lyndon Johnson plus Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha, Mistress America), Billy Crudup (Almost Famous, Spotlight), Richard E. Grant (Withnail & I, Game of Thrones), Max Casella (The Sopranos, Vinyl) and Caspar Phillipson (Flame and Citron, Antboy) and John Hurt (Alien, The Elephant Man).
Jackie will be released in the UK on 20 January 2017.
