Michael Fassbender goes back to his ancestor’s past in official trailer for Assassin’s Creed

Despite their underwhelming record with critics and fans, big-screen adaptions of hit computer games are still being processed with the latest one being Assassin’s Creed.

The mythological adventure series has sold over 70 million copies around the world and is now set to widen its appeal by getting its own cinematic outing.

With a big name star in Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs, X-Men: Apocalypse) cast in the leading role, the film will be hoping to perform well especially after the release of its official trailer which premiered last night.

The plot sees Fassbender play Callum Lynch, a man who discovers that his ancestor Aguilar was an Assassin during 15th Century Spain. He then relieves Aguilar’s memories and where he must do battle with the notorious Templars.

The film sees Fassbender reunite with director Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders) and Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose, The Dark Knight Rises), both of whom he worked with in last year’s Shakespearean drama Macbeth.

Jeremy Irons (The Borgias, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), Ariane Labed (Before Midnight, The Lobster) and Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Suffragette) also feature in the fantasy blockbuster.

Assassin’s Creed will be released in cinemas on December 21st.
